How to Secure a Fortnite Account After Buying It

4 min readUpdated October 3, 2026

The first ten minutes after you receive an account matter most. Do these steps straight away and the account becomes yours, not the previous owner's.

1. Take over the email

Start with the account's email inbox, not Fortnite. Log in to the email using the details you were given and change that email's password if you can. Then sign in at epicgames.com and change the account's email address to one only you control. Epic sends a confirmation code to the current email — that's why you need access to it first.

2. Set a new password

In your Epic account settings, change the password to something long and unique that you don't use anywhere else.

3. Turn on two-factor authentication

Enable two-factor authentication (authenticator app, SMS or email) in the Password & Security section. With 2FA on, nobody can sign in with just the password — and it unlocks gifting in Fortnite too.

4. Check connected accounts

Under Apps and Accounts, review which consoles and services are connected. Disconnect anything that isn't yours, then link your own PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo account if you play on console.

If something doesn't work

If the login or email details don't work, don't keep retrying. Open a ticket from the Help center with your order number and what you see — the team will sort it out.

Frequently asked questions

Why change the email before the password?+

Whoever controls the email can reset the password. Moving the account to your own email first makes sure password resets come to you.

Do I need 2FA?+

Yes. It stops anyone with the old password from getting in, and Fortnite requires it for gifting.

Can I link the account to my console?+

Yes — every Fortnite account on Konvy links to any platform. Connect your console account under Apps and Accounts on epicgames.com.
